Softball sets up for road games against Boston College and Dayton

AMHERST, Mass. -- The University of Massachusetts softball team (6-20, 1-5 A-10) travels to Chestnut Hill to face Boston College (15-15) on Wednesday, April 2, followed by a three-game series against Dayton (15-13, 5-4 A-10) in Dayton, Oh. from April 5-6. Start time on Wednesday is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. Saturday's doubleheader is set for a 12:00 p.m. start time. Action on Wednesday will be broadcasted on ACC Network, with this weekend streaming live on ESPN+.
Last Time Out
The Minutewomen were unable to execute a win in the mid-week matchup against the Bryant Bulldogs. UMass was unable to overcome two home runs by the Bulldogs, surging the Bryant offense with three of their four runs. Massachusetts answered in the bottom of the fourth inning when Musch brought home Colucci off a sacrifice fly to make it a 2-1 ball game.
UMass softball won two games in the three game series against George Mason last weekend. The Minutewomen swept secured the double header on the 29th, with a 2-1 and a 6-5 win. The first game remained scoreless until the seventh inning. Odyssey Torres blasted a solo home run to open the inning. Angie Rama would follow with a single to right field. Taylor Richardson would come in to pinch run for Rama, brought home by a Keefe RBI single to give Massachusetts the eventual winning run. The Patriots would answer with a run in the bottom of the seventh, however Julianne Bolton shut the door on a potential comeback to seal the 2-1 victory. Bolton pitched all seven innings, striking out four while only surrendering one earned run on the day.
After being down 5-1 after the sixth inning, the Minutewomen makes a miraculous comeback in the final three innings to win it 6-5. Freshman Katharine Heslin was unfazed in the face of adversity, launching her first-career home run to fuel the Minutewomen bats. Musch and Keefe rattled off back-to-back singles, with Musch scoring off a wild pitch to make it a 3-5 ballgame. Freshman Lily Woodworth would tie the game at 5-5 off a 2 RBI single to score Keefe and Sophia Thormeyer to force extras after Streicher notched the 1-2-3 inning. Woodworth would be the late-game hero once again in the top of the ninth, scoring fellow freshman Musch off a single that floated over the first basewoman's head.
UMass was unable to secure the complete sweep against George Mason, dropping 2-3 on the Sunday matchup.
Scouting the Field
The Eagles are coming off a three game conference series against the University of Pittsburgh, winning two of their three games. Boston College is batting .253 as a team with 191 hits and 127 runs. The Eagles are looking to secure a mid-week win against UConn on April 1, 2025 at 6 p.m.
Dayton are looking for a win after being swept in their three game series against George Washington, out-scored by the Revolutionaries by a composite score of 5-11. The Flyers offense posts a .274 batting average, tallying 211 hits so far this season for 137 runs and 11 home runs. The pitching staff holds a 3.7 ERA, striking out 134 batters across 182.1 innings including three complete-game shutouts.
