Castro's Go-Ahead Homer Seals 5-4 Victory Over Boston College

BRIGHTON, Mass. -- Massachusetts (9-22, 3-6 A-10) started its week off on a strong note, besting Boston College (15-17, 3-9 ACC) in a 5-4 decision on Wednesday night.
Lydia Castro starred for the Minutewomen, hitting a triple shy of the cycle with a 3-4 day at the plate. The senior catcher brought in the first run of the game, sending an RBI double into right field to score Riain Keefe. Castro amassed three RBIs on the night, including a go-ahead solo home run that would end up as the game-winning score.
Keefe led off the game with a triple, scoring the first run of the night to take a 1-0 lead in the opening frame. The Eagles would answer with two runs in the bottom of the third to take the lead for the first time in the game. Brooke Musch notched a single in the top of the fifth off a bunt, scoring on an error by the catcher to tie the game after a walk and stolen base advanced her to third. Castro singled through the left side of the field, scoring Keefe once again to take the 3-2 lead. Sarah Keagy pinch hit with two outs in the frame with Riley Kairer and Castro on base, singling up the middle to score the Minutewomen's third run of the inning. A two RBI double in the bottom of the sixth knotted the game at 4-4 for BC, as Massachusetts headed into the final frame with one last chance at a go-ahead in regulation. Castro delivered in the first at-bat of the inning, hitting a solo homer in what would end up being the game-winnning run. Julianne Bolton started in the circle for Massachusetts, pitching 3.1 innings and striking out two batters. Hannah Streicher earned the win, throwing 1.1 scoreless inning in relief.
