ABOUT THE UMASS CHEERLEADERS
The UMass Cheerleaders are an All-Girl Division 1A cheerleading program with the goal of creating a positive and exciting game day atmosphere.
The cheerleading program supports UMass Athletics including football, men's basketball and women's basketball. Home football games are held at McGuirk Stadium in Amherst, Mass. Home basketball games are held at the Mullins Center in Amherst, Mass. In addition to home games, the team travels to postseason and some specialty games.
In addition to supporting UMass Athletics and the University of Massachusetts, the cheerleading team attends UCA College Camp at the University of Scranton in August and has the opportunity to attend the UCA College Cheerleading Championships in Orlando, Fla., in January each year. The team competes in All-Girl Division 1A.

Spring 2023 Tryouts

Registration:
All interested athletes incoming freshman, transfers and current students at the university will all need to sign up online through the google form. This form is required to be considered for The University of Massachusetts cheerleading program. All interested athletes must complete the google form - deadline extended to Friday, May 5 at the door!
TRANSFERS: You must show proof of enrollment/acceptance to the university. Transfer students are allowed to tryout pending acceptance to the university later will determine the ability to remain in the program following a late acceptance. Transfers will have until mid-June to accept final spot due to admissions.
- Check in will begin at 6:00pm (Boyden Gymnasium)
- All tryout candidates must wear a solid color athletic tee shirt and tennis skirt. Cheer shoes, hair in a high curled ponytail and game day make up with a ribbon of your choice.
- Interviews will be conducted with the administration and coaching staff simultaneously with the open gym portion of the tryout.
- Open gym, athletes will review/learn all tryout material, open tumble, and select stunt groups for the second portion of the tryout.
Day Two – May 6th 9am – 3pm Skill Tryout
- All tryout candidates will wear a bright colored athletic top, tennis skirt/athletic shorts, low curled ponytail and game day make up.
- All candidates will be evaluated on their tumbling ability, game day material, stunting skills and a timed mile.
- One round of cuts will be made at the end of the day.
- Team announcements will be made following the conclusion of day two.
Day Three – May 7th 9am – 12pm Team Evaluations/Parent Meeting
- The selected 2023 – 2024 team will have practice from 9am – 11am
- A full program team meeting with guardian/parent and coaches following practice. An overview of the program, financial commitments and structure of the program will be reviewed. (11am-12pm) there will be a zoom option and in person option for those in attendance.
All tryout information, team announcements and registration communication will take place via email.
