Taylor Richardson's Walk-Off Seals Extra-Innings Victory on Senior Day

UMass ends season on high note, claiming series win over Saint Louis
AMHERST, Mass. -- Massachusetts (14-33, 6-15 A-10) sent off its seniors in thrilling fashion on Senior Day, as graduating outfielder Taylor Richardson walked it off for UMass in the eighth inning to secure a 4-3 win over Saint Louis (30-21, 18-7 A-10). The Minutewomen claimed two-of-three games on the weekend, ending the season with a conference series win.
All three seniors played integral roles in the win; as Julianne Bolton (8 IP, 5 Ks), Taylor Richardson (1 H, 1 RBI, Walk-Off), and Lydia Castro (1 H, 1 RBI, 1 BB) led by example to fuel the comeback effort.
Massachusetts would surrender a 3-0 lead after the opening two innings as Saint Louis came out of the gates swinging, tallying two home runs. Bolton found a groove following the second inning, putting together five strikeouts across six-straight scoreless innings. Castro answered in the bottom of the third with a sacrifice fly, scoring Brooke Musch to tack on the first run of the game for UMass. A defensive battle featuring diving putouts from both sides followed throughout the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings as neither side could swing the momentum. Following a double by Katharine Heslin, Riley Kairer stepped up in the bottom of the seventh, singling to the pitcher to score pinch runner Riain Keefe while an error on the throw scored Musch to force extra innings. Bolton was unfazed by the added pressure, earning all three outs in the top of the eight by way of the strikeout to bring the UMass bats up for a walk-off opportunity. Taylor Richardson answered the call on her senior day, scoring Olivia Cutuli on an RBI single to close out the game in electric fashion.
