AMHERST, Mass. - UMass tennis opened its spring campaign in Providence, R.I. where the Minutewomen fell 5-2 to Brown University in the squad's first 2014 dual match. The highlight of the match saw Arielle Griffin defeat Brown's Sarah Kandath in straight set singles play, 6-1, 6-4. The win also marked Griffin's first singles victory of her sophomore year.

Sonia Bokhari and Anna Woosley were paired in the No. 2 doubles spot for the second time this year. The tandum previously won No. 2 doubles in September when they defeated Providence 8-3. Griffin and Yuliana Motyl, and Jessica Podlofsky and Chanel Glasper rounded out the doubles pairs at No. 1 and No. 3, respectively.
Motyl, Bokhari, Podlofsky, Woosley and Glasper made up the remaining singles contenders, each suffering losses in straight sets. Following the Brown match-up, the Minutewomen traveled to Cambridge, Mass. to face Harvard University on Saturday afternoon.
