Tennis Concludes Regular Season With Road Match Against Rhode Island

The Minutewomen and Rams face off on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Kingston, Rhode Island.

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts tennis concludes its regular season action with an Atlantic 10 Conference road match against Rhode Island on Saturday, April 19, in Kingston, Rhode Island. The match is slated for a 1 p.m. start at the URI Tennis Complex.
 
Last Time Out
The Minutewomen improved to 10-6 overall, after earning their third straight victory over UConn last Wednesday.
 
After dropping the doubles point to the Huskies, Massachusetts began to mount its comeback in singles action. Ella Faessler notched the first point of the day for UMass with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 2, to tie up the match, but UConn answered back with a win at court No. 6. Soon after, the Minutewomen quickly garnered two three-set wins on courts No. 3 and No. 1. Belle Jonglertrakul bested her opponent, 4-6, 6-3, 6-0 in a come-from-behind win at No. 3 singles, while Mariana Campino won 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 to top UConn at court No. 1. UConn added to its score to bring the match to a 3-3 tie, but Martina Pavissich cemented the UMass triumph with a 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 victory at No. 5 singles.
 
Scouting Rhode Island
The Rhode Island Rams hold a 14-4 overall record, including a 3-1 A-10 Conference record. The Rams are coming off a 4-0 loss over Fordham, and are on a two-match losing streak. Rhode Island's three league wins came against George Washington (4-0), George Mason (4-0) and Davidson (4-1).
 
Weekly Honors
Faessler collected the first Atlantic 10 weekly award of the year for the Minutewomen on February 4. The junior tabbed the A-10 Player of the Week accolade, which marked the first weekly honor of her career. On the week, Faessler went 2-0 in singles competition and 1-0 in doubles play.

Massachusetts prepares to travel to Lake Nona, Florida, for the A-10 Championships at the USTA National Campus beginning on Thursday, April 24 through Sunday, April 27. Seeding and match times are yet.
