Minutemen Track and Field Has Busy Week at UMass Multi-Meet, Friar Invitational and Julie LaFreniere Commonwealth Invitational

AMHERST, Mass. -- The University of Massachusetts women's track and field team had a busy weekend competing in the UMass Multi-Meet on Wednesday, April 9 and Thursday, April 10 in Amherst, followed by the Friar Invitational in Providence on Friday, April 11, rounded out at home in Amherst on Sunday, April 13 at the Julie LaFreniere Commonwealth Invitational. 

Highlights from Competition:

UMass Multi-Meet
  • Jacob Brown claimed gold in the men's decathlon, finishing no lower than seventh in the 10 events, including taking the top spot in the shot put (40'9"), high jump (6'2.50") and discus (121'11"). Brown also placed third in the long jump (22'3.25"), pole vault (12'9.50"), javelin (149'6") and 1500m run (4:47.34), rounding out his day with the fourth-best time in the 110m hurdles (15.08), sixth-fastest 400m run performance (53.21) and seventh-fastest 100m dash time (11.59) for an overall score of 6578. 
  • Elijah Wolinski earned silver, placing within the top-10 of every event, including first-place finishes in the long jump (22'3.25"), 400m (50.18) and 110m hurdles (15.08), as well as runner-up nods in the pole vault (13'5.50"). Wolinski placed third in the high jump clearing 6'1.25", and secured a pair of fourth-place finishes in the javelin (149'10") and 1500m run (4:47.69); closing out the meet with a sixth-place finish in the 100m dash (11.49), eighth-farthest throw in the shot put (32'0.75") and 10th-best throw in the discus (83'1") for an overall score of 6490.
  • Alex Bishop claimed the ninth-best performance, finishing fifth in the 100m dash (11.49) and high jump (5'10.75"), sixth in the javelin (132'9") and 110m hurdles (16.20), seventh in the 400m dash (53.30), eighth in the discus (92'2") and pole vault (10'2"), ninth in the long jump (19'9.50" and 11th in the shot put (29'5.50") for an overall score of 5036. 

Friar Invitational

Track
  • Colin Kirn placed fifth in the men's open 800m run, crossing the finish line 1:54.86. Nick Calitri narrowly missed the top-10, placing 11th with a time of 1:57.49. 
  • Robert Carew secured silver in the men's 5K with a time of 14:12.86. Michael Norberg rounded out the top-five, finishing in 14:18.77. 
  • Riley Cole earned bronze in the men's steeplechase, crossing the finish line in 9:19.49. 


Lafreniere Commonwealth Outdoor Invitational

Field
  • Tory Stuckey claimed silver in the men's high jump clearing 6'0.75".
  • Hunter Fietel placed sixth in the men's pole vault clearing 14'7.50". 
  • Chamberlain Guthrie secured gold in the men's long jump with a leap of 22'8.75."
  • Matthew Acquah earned gold in the men's triple jump with a leap of 47'8.50". 
  • Aiden Donovan claimed bronze in the men's shot put with a throw of 52'5.25". Donovan also earned a bronze in the men's discus with a toss of 160'4", with Brennan Ibbitson securing eighth with a throw of 143'0". 
  • Jack Freyler earned bronze in the men's javelin with a throw of 171'9". Elijah Wolinski cracked into the top-10, taking ninth with a toss of 130'2". 

Track
  • Cyrus Hansen placed fourth in the men's 3K steeplechase with a time of 9:38.69. 
  • Will Kenney secured silver in the men's 1500m run with a time of 3:56.79. 
  • Michael Harden claimed bronze in the men's 400m dash finishing in 49.03. Mark Sten secured eighth with a time of 49.45. 
  • Adithya Hari rounded out the top-10 in the men's 100m dash crossing the finish line in 10.79. 
  • The trio of Colin Kirn (7th), Nick Calitri (8th) and Will Kenney (9th) placed in the top-10 of the men's 800m run with times of 1:55.63, 1:56.06 and 1:56.17, respectively. 
  • Chris Scalia rounded out the top-five of the men's 400m hurdles with a time of 54.95. 
  • Godot Gaskins placed ninth in the men's 200m dash with a time of 22.07.
  • Liam Ouellette placed fifth in the men's 5K with a time of 14:53.30. 
  • Mark Sten, Chris Scalia, Michael Harden and Godot Gaskins claimed gold in the men's 4x400m relay, combining to run 3:15.70.

Massachusetts returns to action next weekend to compete at Georgia Tech in Atlanta, Ga. on April 18-19 and the Holy Cross Invite in Worcester, Mass. on April 19.
