Men's swimming coach Russ Yarworth, women's swimming coach Bob Newcomb, and diving coach Mandy Hixon announced the release of the swimming and diving teams' schedules for the 2009-10 season this week. Highlighting this season's slate are four home meets for each squad at the Joseph Rogers Pool. Both teams will also make their annual trip to San Juan, Puerto Rico in January as well.

Good morning UMass fans. This Thursday edition of JTAM has a variety of UMass sports being covered. One current UMass pitcher was in action on Wednesday for his summer team, while a former Minuteman hurler started on the mound for his AA team. Also included is some coverage of men's basketball's Tyrell Lynch (pictured), hockey, and women's lacrosse.
NBA Summer League Home
Former UMass men's basketball stars Gary Forbes and Tony Gaffney will be taking the court over the next few weeks as the NBA Summer League kicks off. Forbes, with the Philadelphia 76ers, and Gaffney, with the Los Angeles Lakers, will be competing for roster spots with their respective organizations.

Ice Hockey UMass Hockey Announces 2009-10 Schedule The UMass hockey team will play 15 home dates including seven of the first nine games as the 2009-10 schedule has been released on Friday. Included in the 15 home dates is a nationally televised game against Vermont which will air on ESPNU - now a part of the Comcast cable service - that will reach 46 million home audiences. (more)

The UMass women's soccer team unveiled its 2009 schedule on Thursday, which is highlighted by a non-conference road game at Boston University and six home conference matches. The Minutewomen kick off their schedule with a night game at intrastate rival Holy Cross on Aug. 28 while the home opener is set for Sept. 9, against the Providence Friars at 4 p.m. on Rudd Field. UMass is looking to build off a 2008 campaign which included a hot 3-1-2 start, two thrilling double overtime victories, and the program's first win over Dayton since 1998.
UMass rising junior Ben Arikian, the reigning Atlantic 10 Midfielder of the Year, headlines the 2009 A-10 preseason men's soccer All-Conference team, as selected by the league's head coaches. Arikian led the Minutemen in points (15) and assists (seven), while his assist total ranked third in the A-10 last season. He contributed four goals on the year and scored or assisted the game-winning goal in nine of Massachusetts' 10 wins.
Former All-American and current L.A. Kings goalie Jon Quick has been named to the U.S. Olympic Men's Ice Hockey Training Camp as announced by U.S.A. Hockey on Tuesday, June 30. Quick is one of three goalies invited to the Olympic Orientation Camp. In total, 34 players were named to the training roster.
