Massachusetts Tennis Kicks Off 2025 Slate With Three Matches

The Minutewomen match up with Boston College on the road on Friday, Jan. 24, before hosting Siena and Merrimack for a doubleheader on Sunday, Jan. 26.
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts tennis kicks off the 2025 season with three matches over the weekend. On Friday, January 24, the team travels to Weymouth, Massachusetts, to compete against Boston College at 3 p.m., before hosting Siena and Merrimack for a doubleheader match on Sunday, January 26 at the Bay Road Tennis Center, at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., respectively.
UMass finished the regular season last year with a 15-8 overall record and a 4-1 mark in the Atlantic 10 Conference. The Minutewomen capped off the season with an A-10 Championship title and a trip to the First Round of the NCAA Tournament for the first time since the 2016-17 season.
At the conclusion of the 2024 season, head coach Juancarlos Nunez was named the A-10 Coach of the Year, while Danielle Hack tabbed A-10 Most Outstanding Performer. Additionally, Hack was placed on the league's All-Conference First Team and the A-10 All-Academic Team. Belle Jonglertrakul joined Hack on the All-Conference First Team, as Ella Faessler landed on the All-Conference Second Team.
Nunez was also announced as the Wilson/ITA New England Region Coach of the Year, while assistant coach Hannah McColgan was named the ITA Assistant Coach of the Year. Hack was selected as the ITA Senior Player of the Year and Jonglertrakul collected the ITA Most Improved Player and ITA Player to Watch honors.
The tennis team also earned ITA All-Academic Team accolades, with eight members of the 2023-24 team receiving ITA Scholar-Athlete honors. In the final ITA New England Regional Rankings, the Minutewomen earned the first-ever ranking of No. 6 in the region. Hack landed at No. 7 in the ITA New England regional Singles Rankings, while Hack and Jonglertrakul sat at No. 5 in the ITA New England Regional Doubles Rankings.
The Minutewomen return five members of the 2023-24 team, including seniors Mariana Campino, Renata Farima and Jonglertrakul, junior Faessler and sophomore Amelia Tye. The Maroon and White added junior transfer Trinity Calinescu, while adding two freshmen in Owethu Makhanya and Martina Pavissich.
Scouting Boston College
The Eagles are 1-1 heading into Friday's match up. Boston College began the season with a 7-0 sweep against Army at home, before falling to Brown, 4-3, on the road.
Scouting Siena/Merrimack
The Saints and Warriors will compete for the first time this spring on Sunday against the Minutewomen.
Next Up
Massachusetts will host Holy Cross on Saturday, February 1, and Fairfield on Sunday, February 2. Both matches will be played at 11 a.m. at the Bay Road Tennis Center.
