Baseball Trio Lauded UMass Student-Athletes Of The Week

Gervasi, O’Connor and Sullivan share weekly Sports Luncheon honors.
AMHERST, Mass. – Three members of the University of Massachusetts baseball team were named the UMassFive Student-Athletes of the Week, as announced on Monday. Graduate student Mike Gervasi, redshirt freshman Robbie O'Connor and freshman Braden Sullivan will be recognized on Wednesday afternoon during the UMass Sports Luncheon at the Berkshire Dining Commons.
On a 4-1 week for UMass, Gervasi registered a .600 batting average, a .667 on-base percentage and a 1.900 slugging percentage. Gervasi accumulated six hits, including his first double of the season and four home runs, eight runs and five RBI. The graduate student scored a career-high four runs at UMES, while tallying two hits, which included his fourth homer of the year, and an RBI. In the first game of the Seton Hall doubleheader on Sunday, the Rockland, Massachusetts, native, hit a solo home run for his lone hit with a run and RBI. During the series finale at Seton Hall, Gervasi went 3-for-4 on the day, clubbing a career-best two home runs and his first double of the year, while adding three runs and three RBI.
O'Connor earned his first career winning decision on the mound in the 11-1 win at Seton Hall in the final game of the three-game series. The redshirt freshman earned a 1.29 ERA, pitching the complete seven innings with a run-rule, marking a career-high. O'Connor only allowed one run on five hits, walked one and dealt two strikeouts.
Sullivan earned a .600 batting average, a .625 on-base percentage and a 1.067 slugging percentage. Sullivan totaled nine hits, including two home runs and a double, five runs, eight RBI and a stolen base on the week. In the 12-5 win at UMES, the Taunton, Massachusetts, native recorded a career-high four hits, with his first career grand slam, while adding a career-best five RBI, two runs a one stolen base. During the Seton Hall series, the freshman tallied two hits, which included his second homer of the season, two RBI and a run in the game one of Sunday's doubleheader. The series finale against Seton Hall saw Sullivan register three hits, including a double, two runs and a RBI.
