Massachusetts Drops Pair Of Pitchers Duals On Final Day At UNCG Invitational

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Massachusetts (4-15) dropped a pair of tightly contested pitchers duals to Merrimack (3-16) and UMBC (5-6), Sunday at UNCG Softball Stadium.
Massachusetts fell 3-0 to Merrimack in the first game of the final day in Greensboro. Junior Julianne Bolton earned her seventh start in the circle, striking out 11 batters while allowing just four hits. Bolton took a no-hitter into the bottom of the fifth inning before Merrimack claimed a 1-0 advantage they would not relinquish. Freshman Odyssey Torres collected two hits in the matchup, leading the team and raising her season total to 11.
The Minutewomen completed the weekend double-header, falling 6-3 to UMBC to close out the weekend. Senior Bella Pantoja led the team in hits (2), including an RBI single in the sixth inning. Senior Jenna Bradley drove out her first career home-run, a two-run blast to make it a three-run sixth inning. Sophomore Natalee Horton received her seventh starting nod in the circle, totaling seven strikeouts and allowing just one extra-base hit.
