UMass Celebrates Student-Athlete Achievement At SAMY Awards

It was a festive evening on Monday night as the UMass Department of Athletics and special guests gathered at the UMass Campus Center Auditorium for the 2nd Annual SAMY Awards.
The evening was marked by festive celebration of the past year and an eye towards the future as the student-athletes were able to meet new Athletic Director Ryan Bamford who ended his first official day on campus at the event.
The Red Carpet was on full display to greet the student-athletes as they arrived, while football quarterback Blake Frohnapfel and tennis captain Chanel Glasper interviewed players and coaches for a UMass Sports Network feature will air soon.
Bamford offered the opening remarks of the night highlighting some of the academic and athletic achievement of the past year.
Several awards were presented along with recognition of several academic honors including the awarding of Chi Alpha Sigma medals and Maroon Scholar-Athlete sashes for graduation.
