John Barrett Named Senior Associate Director of Athletics for Finance & Business Services

AMHERST, Mass. -- John Barrett joined University of Massachusetts athletics as the Senior Associate Director of Athletics, Finance & Business Services, the department announced Monday. 
 
Prior to joining the Minutemen, Barrett served as the Director of Athletics at the Kent School (Kent, Connecticut). In that role, Barrett oversaw an athletic department of over 80 full-time faculty and coaches, 50 athletic programs and 500 student-athletes. During his time in Connecticut, he implemented new strategies to build revenues and enhance business while managing the departments' entire athletic financial operation, budget development and forecasting.  
 
Before arriving at the Kent School, Barrett spent eight years as the Senior Associate Athletics Director/Business Affairs at Fordham University. A Fordham graduate, Barrett supervised all aspects of the department's financial operations, athletic travel, marketing, ticket office, athletic equipment, strength and conditioning and corporate sponsorships. In this role, he also identified and implemented new revenue streams for the entire department. 
 
Barrett also served as an Associate Athletics Director for Intercollegiate Sports Programs at Columbia from 2008-2014. In that role he oversaw a number of Columbia's intercollegiate sports programs and was responsible for personnel, operating budgets, revenues and gift accounts for each assigned program. He also oversaw the athletic equipment services operation for the entire athletic department. 
  
Before arriving at Morningside Heights, Barrett served as the Assistant Athletic Director for Business Management for two years at Brown University. In this position, he supervised a number of varsity sports programs and managed all departmental expenses and income. While at Brown, Barrett developed, reported and maintained the athletics department's budget and served as the direct liaison to Brown University's athletics fundraising organization, the Brown Sports Foundation.  
  
Barrett joined the Bears' staff in 2001 as the Assistant Athletic Business Manager and Travel Coordinator. Three years later he was promoted to Athletic Business Manager until July, 2006 when he was named Assistant Athletic Director. 
  
Barrett earned his B.A. from Fordham University in Communication and Media Studies in 1999 and was a member of the men's basketball program. Additionally, he earned a master's degree in Sport Management from Virginia Commonwealth University.
