Women's Tennis Coach Judy Dixon Picks Up 100th Win

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- University of Massachusetts women's tennis coach Judy Dixon registered up her 100th career victory this weekend as the Minutewomen defeated Villanova 6-1, Duquesne 7-0, and Temple 5-2, to improve to 13-6 overall, 2-0 in the A-10.
Dixon, who came to UMass in 1993, is already the all-time wins leader. She is one of four coaches in the history of the program to sport a winning record. Dixon was named the 1999 USTA New England Coach of the Year, and was recently selected into her high school's hall of fame. Prior to UMass, Dixon coached at Yale, as well as touring professionally. She has competed at the U.S. Open, Wimbledon, and on the Virginia Slims Tour.
The Minutewomen were led by junior Annie Hamilton (Plano, Texas), freshman Susan Hyams (Cincinnati, Ohio), and junior Lindsey Gillooly (Stoughton, Mass.) who each picked up three singles wins. Freshman Francesca Mancini (Milan, Italy), freshman Jafra Depontes (Kaliua-Kona, Hawaii), and junior Helena Horak (Westlake Village, Calif.) each recorded two wins.
In doubles, the tandem of Mancini and Hamilton, together for the first time, went undefeated at 3-0 at No. 1.
The Minutewomen will next play Wednesday, April 4, when they travel to Farfield, Conn, for a non-conference match with the stags. It is set for 3:00 p.m.
