Ella Faessler clinched the match for UMass in a three-set singles thriller
AMHERST, Mass. — University of Massachusetts tennis claimed a decisive 4-0 victory over Davidson College on Sunday afternoon at the Bay Road Tennis Center.
Massachusetts quickly clinched the doubles point with victories on courts No. 1 and 3. First, the duo of Mariana Campino and Thamonpan Jonglertrakul defeated Davidson's Kavya Patel and Daniela Porges 6-0 at No. 1 singles. Owethu Makhanya and Martina Pavissich clinched the doubles point on court No. 3 with a 6-2 match over Ellie Hammond and Charlotte Calderwood of the Wildcats. The match on court No. 2 was 5-4 in UMass' favor before going unfinished.
In singles play, Amelia Tye garnered the first singles victory in a 6-4, 6-2 win over Davidson's Ellie Hammond on court No. 4. Soon after, Mariana Campino claimed a straight set victory of her own at No. 1 singles in a 6-4, 6-1 match atop Kavya Patel of the Wildcats. On the remaining courts, both matches were forced to three sets before Faessler mounted a come-from-behind victory at No. 2 singles over Savanna Kollock 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 to clinch UMass' victory. The matches on courts No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6 went unfinished.
The Minutewomen continue their homestand on Friday, April 4 for Senior Day against Bryant. Match time is slated for 2 p.m.
