Massachusetts Tennis Defeats Richmond, 4-3

The Minutewomen secured all four points in singles play.
RICHMOND, Va. – University of Massachusetts tennis defeated Richmond, 4-3, on Saturday morning at the Westhampton Tennis Complex. The Minutewomen improve to 7-5 overall and 2-0 in the Atlantic 10 Conference with the win.
Richmond claimed the doubles point with victories at No. 1 and No. 3. Lara Bakhaya and Andrea Campodonico of Richmond took down Mariana Campino and Belle Jonglertrakul, 6-3, at court No. 1, before the Spiders' Lainey O'Neil and Claire Le Du won, 6-3, at No. 3 doubles over Owethu Makhanya and Martina Pavissich.
The Minutewomen started a comeback in singles competition with Campino downing Richmond's Sofia Barbulescu, 6-2, 6-2 at court No. 1. Faessler followed with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Campodonico at No. 2 singles to take the lead. Richmond grabbed the next point as Le Du won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6 singles over Makhanya. Pavissich secured the third point for UMass with a 6-4, 7-5 win over Elizabeht Novak of Richmond at No. 5. Bakhaya of Richmond tied up the match at No. 3 singles with a 6-4, 7-6(3) triumph over Jonglertrakul, but Tye clinched the match point for Massachusetts with a 2-6, 7-5, 6-1 victory over Richmond's Abby Lee.
Massachusetts will return to Amherst to take on Boston University on Friday, March 28, at 2 p.m.
