#17 Massachusetts Lacrosse Pushes Streak To Seven Straight With 10-9 Win At UMass Lowell

LOWELL, Mass. – Freshman Robbie Granara scored the game-winning goal with 1:42 remaining regulation to lift No. 17 Massachusetts men's lacrosse to a 10-9 victory over UMass Lowell at Cushing Field on Tuesday afternoon. UMass wraps up its four-game road trip with a record of 7-1, its seventh-straight win, the program's longest streak since 2018. The River Hawks fall to 3-5 on the year.
Senior Trace Hogan led the way for the Gorillas with a hat trick and an assist for four points, Michael Finnerty scored the first two goals of his collegiate career and Granara added two tallies on the day. Seven different individuals logged caused turnovers for UMass and TJ Casey won 9 of 18 faceoffs and grabbed a team-high four ground balls.
UMass Lowell began the contest with a 2-0 advantage, scoring twice in the span of 65 seconds. Hogan then put the Gorillas on the board at the 6:02 mark and later added UMass' second of the quarter after the River Hawks led 3-1 with 3:44 left in the frame.
After UMass Lowell regained its two-goal cushion with 11:45 on the clock in the second quarter, the Gorillas went on a 4-0 run, started with a man-up tally from Matthew Cargiulo. Finnerty capped the stretch with his second of the day at 2:07 of the second, giving UMass a 6-4 lead at the break.
The River Hawks responded by beginning the second half with a 3-1 stretch to level the score at 7-7. Granara then ended the third quarter with his first of the afternoon, putting the Gorillas back on top by one.
Hogan completed his hat trick with UMass' ninth goal of the day to open the fourth quarter. UMass Lowell rallied with the next two scores, leaving the teams deadlocked at 9-9 headed into the final two minutes of regulation.
Hogan found Granara for the quick strike for the deciding tally as Granara extended his streak of multi-goal games to three straight and seven of eight contests on the season.
Freshman goalkeeper Owen Salanger shut the door with a clutch save on the ensuing possession and finished with nine on the day to improve to 7-0. Carter O'Brien totaled 13 saves in the cage for UMass Lowell.
UMass out-shot the River Hawks, 40-37 but were edged in the ground ball battle, 23-22. The Gorillas were 1-for-1 in extra man opportunities and 1-for-1 in man down situations.
UMass will return home to host Brown in its next action as the squads will take to Garber Field on Saturday, March 22 at noon.
