Massachusetts Swim & Dive Collects Two Medals On Final Day Of A-10 Championships

Andrew Bell earns back-to-back Atlantic 10 Men’s Diver of the Year award.

HAMPTON, Va. – University of Massachusetts swimming and diving earned two medals on the final day of the Atlantic 10 Championships on Saturday evening at the Hampton Aquaplex. Junior Andrew Bell was named the A-10 Men's Most Outstanding Diver of the Year, earning the honor for the second straight year.
 
Diving coach Missy Bernosky tabbed A-10 Men's Diving Coach of the Year, also in back-to-back seasons.
 
Bell collected the gold medal in the three-meter dive, while freshman Kendall Gilbert picked up the silver medal in the 200 breaststroke. Bell's gold medal was his second of the 2025 A-10 Championships, and marked his second straight medal in the three-meter dive. Gilbert's A-10 Championship medal marked the first of her career.
 
The Minutewomen finished the championships in seventh place with 284 points, while the Minutemen completed the four-day event in sixth with 332 points.
 
Women's Swimming & Diving
The Minutewomen totaled seven top-10 times throughout the day.
 
The women's team started off the finals events with three personal-bests in the 1650 freestyle, led by junior Lexi Alexen with a sixth-best all-time mark of 17:07.31 to finish 13th. Sophomore Sophie Porter followed in 18th -place with a time of 17:33.01, while junior Molly Nelson was 19th with a time of 17:35.05.
 
The 200 breaststroke saw Gilbert secure the third A-10 Championship medal for UMass, as the freshman earned the silver with a new program record time of 2:11.59. Gilbert broke a previous record of 2:14.82 held by Meriza Werenski from the 2013-14 season. Sophomore Lindsay Burbage placed ninth with a personal-best time of 2:15.65, which marked the fourth-best time in program history.
 
During the preliminaries of the 200 breaststroke, freshman Maria Grishaeva swam the program's sixth all-time mark of 2:17.74.   
 
In the 200 butterfly, senior Anna Kwon finished fourth with a time of 2:00.46, after swimming a personal-best time of 2:00.30 in the preliminaries, which marked the third-best time in program history. Freshman Karinne Everly swam into ninth with the fourth-best time in program history of 2:01.07.
 
The 400 freestyle relay team of sophomore Beren Cakiroglu, freshman Courtney Tedesco, freshman Elizabeth Lahmann and Kwon combined for a time of 3:26.11 to take eighth.
 
 
Men's Swimming & Diving
Sophomore Jude Boukarroum took seventh in the 1650 freestyle, swimming his way onto the all-time list with the eighth-best mark of 15:44.30. Freshman Daniel Strumidlo finished the event with a time of 16:16.44 to place 19th.
 
Freshman Chase Keeler claimed sixth in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:46.29, after swimming a fifth-best time in program history of 1:46.20 in the preliminaries of the event. Senior Beau Bengston completed the event in 15th with a personal-best time of 1:49.09.
 
The 100 freestyle saw junior Sammy Quigg swim into sixth with a time of 44.24. Freshman Nate Derby finished the 200 breaststroke in 11th with a personal-best time of 2:01.24. Derby's time marked the fifth-best all-time record.
 
Sophomore Aydin Erkan was ninth in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:48.13, followed closely behind by freshman Liam Rayson in 12th with a personal-best time of 1:50.33, which marked the program's 10th-best time. Graduate student Juan Montori took 15th-place with a time of 1:51.19.
 
During the preliminaries of the 200 butterfly, Erkan swam the fourth-best time in program history of 1:47.82, while Juan Montori had a personal-best time of 1:50.96 to advance to the finals.
 
In the 400 freestyle relay, the team consisting of junior Aidan Shepston, Juan Montori, sophomore Alonso Montori and Quigg took sixth with a time of 2:57.97.
 
On The Boards
In the three-meter dive, Bell sat atop the podium with a six-dive total of 428.15 to secure his second gold medal of the A-10 Championships, and for the second consecutive year. Bell's total of 428.15 marked a new A-10 Conference meet record.
 
Freshman Alex Kreidler took seventh in the three-meter dive with a score of 293.65.
