Bell Medals On Day Two Of Atlantic 10 Championships

Andrew Bell secures the gold medal in the one-meter dive on the second day of competition.
HAMPTON, Va. – Junior Andrew Bell collected the first Atlantic 10 Championship medal for the University of Massachusetts swim and dive team on Thursday evening at the Hampton Aquaplex. Bell placed first in the one-meter dive with a six-dive total of 359.80.
The Minutewomen currentl sit in ninth with 94 points, while the Minutemen are sixth with 128 points.
Competition at the A-10 Championships continues Friday, February 22, starting at 10 a.m. with the preliminary events, followed by the event finals at 6 p.m.
Women's Swimming & Diving
During the preliminary round, sophomore Lindsay Burbage recorded a personal-best time of 2:05.30 in the 200 individual medley. Her time marked the fifth-best time in program history.
The 200 freestyle relay team competed in the finals for the Minutewomen, as sophomore Beren Cakiroglu, freshman Elizabeth Lahmann, graduate student Bri Williams and freshman Courtney Tedesco swam into seventh with a time of 1:33.10.
Men's Swimming & Diving
Sophomore Jude Boukarroum led the Minutemen in the 500 freestyle, placing sixth in the A-Finals with a season-best time of 4:30.12. Freshmen Cam Wright (4:31.85) and Daniel Strumidlo (4:32.47) followed in 13th and 16th, respectively, in the B-Finals of the event.
The 200 individual medley B-Finals saw freshman Chase Keeler swim into ninth with a personal-best time of 1:48.79. Keeler's etched his name in the record book with the second-best all-time mark.
Junior Sammy Quigg competed in the 50 freestyle, finishing in 15th with a time of 20.50.
The 200 freestyle relay team of senior Grant Beebe, junior Aidan Shepston, senior Beau Bengston and Quigg combined for a time of 1:21.41 for an eighth-place finish.
On The Boards
In the men's one-meter dive preliminaries, Bell claimed the top spot with a total of 358.10, while freshman Alex Kreidler placed 10th with a score of 246.00, as both Minutemen advanced into the diving finals.
Bell sat atop the podium with his six0dive total of 359.80 in the finals, as Kreidler finished 10th with a total of 292.00.
