Massachusetts Swim & Dive Shakes Up The Record Book On Day Three Of A-10 Championships

The Minutewomen and Minutemen combined for 14 top-10 times within the record book.
HAMPTON, Va. – University of Massachusetts swimming and diving finished day three of the Atlantic 10 Championships on Friday evening at the Hampton Aquaplex. The men's and women's teams combined for 14 top-10 marks to shake up the record book.
Additionally, freshman Khrystyna Yaremyn earned the second medal of the A-10 Championships for Massachusetts, collecting the bronze medal in the three-meter dive with a six-dive total of 281.85.
The Minutewomen currently sit in eighth with 200 points, while the Minutemen are sixth with 205 points.
The final day of the A-10 Championships will be Saturday, February 22, starting at 10 a.m. with the preliminary events, followed by the event finals at 6 p.m.
Women's Swimming & Diving
The Minutewomen totaled seven top-10 times throughout the day.
The 100 butterfly saw graduate student Ashley Calderon (55.01) and senior Lauren Stott (56.40) swim in the B-Finals, placing 10th and 15th, respectively. In the preliminaries of the event, Stott swam a time of 55.53 for the sixth-best mark all-time.
Sophomore Diya Ackerman-Vallala and freshman Kendall Gilbert placed their names within the 400 individual medley top-10 records. Ackerman-Vallala finished 11th with a personal-best time of 4:24.41, while Gilbert followed behind in 12th with a personal-best time of 4:25.88.
During the 200 freestyle, senior Anna Kwon claimed fourth with a personal-best time of 1:50.18, which marked the seventh-best time in program history. Freshman Hannah Schoenauer was 13th in the event with a time of 1:52.23, after swimming a season-best time of 1:51.93 in the preliminaries.
Sophomore Lindsay Burbage (1:01.72) and Gilbert (1:02.97) finished ninth and 12th, respectively, in the 100 breaststroke. Burbage's personal-best time was the second all-time mark, while Gilbert's personal-best time ranked sixth all-time.
Graduate student Bri Williams swam into 16th in the 100 backstroke with a time of 56.48 to round out the individual women's swimming events.
The 400 medley relay team of freshman Maria Grishaeva, Burbage, Calderon and sophomore Beren Cakiroglu combined for a time of 3:44.83 to take seventh. Grishaeva led off the relay with a 100 backstroke split time of 55.85, which became the sixth-best all-time mark.
Men's Swimming & Diving
Senior Grant Beebe led the 100 butterfly with a third-best all-time record, finishing 11th with a time of 48.46 in the B-Finals. During the preliminaries of the event, junior Aidan Shepston swam a personal-best time of 49.02, while graduate student Juan Montori recorded a personal-0best time of 49.14, ranking eighth and ninth, respectively, in the all-time list.
Freshman Chase Keeler claimed fifth in the A-Finals of the 400 individual medley with a time of 3:55.82. Keeler etched his name in fourth all-time in the event after swimming a personal-best time of 3:55.55 in the preliminary round.
The 200 freestyle saw junior Sammy Quigg swim a season-best time of 1:37.95 to place fourth, followed by freshman Daniel Strumidlo in 12th with a season-best time of 1:39.67 and sophomore Alonso Montori in 13th with a personal-best time of 1:40.14.
Nate Derby recorded the eighth-best mark all-time in the 100 breaststroke, finishing 14th with a personal-best time of 55.75. Senior Beau Bengston was 11th in the 100 backstroke, while freshman Zach Szabo (49.00) was 14th in the event. Bengston swam a personal-best time of 48.85 in the finals for the fourth-best program mark, while Szabo swam the fifth-best record time of 48.94 in the preliminaries.
In the 400 medley relay, the team consisting of Bengston, Derby, Beebe and Quigg placed eighth with a time of 3:16.29.
On The Boards
