AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts softball team heads to North Carolina, facing Charleston Southern, Merrimack, UMBC and UNC Greensboro from March 8-10 at the UNCG Invitational. **Due to severe weather entering the area the weekend's schedule has been altered check umassathletics.com or @UMassSoftball on X for any further updates**

Last Time Out:
The Minutewomen come into the final tournament of the non-conference schedule after their (0-4) appearance at the Gamecock Invitational. On the first day of the tournament Bella Pantoja recorded a double against South Alabama. During the second day of the tournament Julianne Bolton allowed only one run through the first four innings of play as well as 2 strikeouts on 85 pitches. During the final day of the Gamecock Invitational, Natalee Horton pitched a complete game where she recorded 6 strikeouts. Lydia Castro led offensively in the final game going 2-3 at the plate.

2023 Rewind:
Massachusetts comes into 2024 after earning a 16-34 record a season ago. The Minutewomen return 13 players from the 2023 campaign including eight who played in over 30 games. At the plate, Massachusetts brings back Chloe Whitter who led the team in batting average (.315) and senior Bella Pantoja who paced the Minutemen in home runs (3) and runs batted in (24). On the rubber, Julianne Bolton comes back to Sortino Field after leading the pitching staff in innings pitched (112.0) and appearances (27.0).

Scouting The Field:

Charleston Southern - Charleston Southern enters the UNCG Invitational after evening their series against Northern Kentucky. The Buccaneers fell to Northern Kentucky by a final score of 1-0 on the first day of the series. Nealy Lamb got the start for the team and finished the day with 4.0 innings, two hits, four walks and six strikeouts. Annah Junge in the fifth inning recorded three strikeouts as well. Junge threw 7.0 innings allowing seven hits and striking out six batters which puts her at 431 for her career.

Merrimack - Merrimack enters the tournament after a (0-5) weekend at the Jeannine McHaney Memorial Classic. In the first day of the tournament Courtney Lanpher had a hit and a stolen base. Sydney Samuel also had a stolen base during the first game. On day two of the McHaney Memorial Classic Merrimack fell to the UTEP Miners and the Texas Tech Red Raiders by scores of 14-2 and 18-2.

UMBC - UMBC enters the weekend after closing the UNCW Tournament where they dropped a pair of one-run decisions, 7-6, to Providence and 5-4 to host UNC Wilmington. Ella Squaires led the attack, collecting five hits in seven at-bats. She has hit .552 through seven games, totaling 13 hits. Amaya Carroll and Amya Lundy both homered and drove in three runs each.

UNCG - UNCG enters the tournament after a three-game sweep against Elon with finishing with a 6-3 victory at the UNCG Softball Stadium. Jessie Shipley, Brooklynn Maxwell, and Tori Dalehite all tallied a double.

Looking Ahead:
The Minutewomen move on to Atlantic 10 play facing Saint Louis for a three game series from March 16-17 at the Biliken Sport Center.
