Last Time Out
The Minutewomen stormed back from down eight runs in their last game on Saturday against Dartmouth to come away with a 15-13 win after Alyssa Lyon's pinch-hit walk-off homer completed the comeback. UMass was facing a run-rule situation down eight in the bottom of the fifth inning before scoring three in the fifth, nine in the sixth and three more in the ninth. Hannah Bunker led the way with three hits in the win while Bella Pantoja, Amy Smith and Payge Suggs each added a pair.
UMass Leaders
UMass is hitting .305 as a team this season led by Smith's .353 average while Jules Shields adds a .351 for a squad that has eight batters hitting .300 or better. Shields and Kendra Allen are tied for the team-lead in RBI with 18 while Shields also leads the Minutewomen in in total bases (34) and slugging percentage (.596).
Previously vs. Rhody
UMass defeated Rhode Island 10-1 in five innings in game one and 12-11 in game two when they met for a doubleheader on April 6. Smith and Shields each drove in a pair of runs in the game one win while Jessie DiPasquale struck out seven in the game one win. In game two, the Minutewomen rallied back from down five runs after scoring seven in the sixth inning to pull ahead before URI took the lead back in the bottom half. Caroline Deem tied it up with a RBI single before Caroline Videtto drove in three on a triple to put UMass ahead by three in the eventual win.
The Opponent
The Rams resumed action last weekend with six games at Saint Joseph's after entering a program pause from April 10-22. Ari Castillo leads URI's offense with team-best numbers in batting average (.407), hits (22), RBI (12) and slugging (.611) to go along with a handful of additional team-leading marks for a team that is batting .246 on the year. Rhode Island will be the home team for tomorrow's doubleheader as the teams wrap up their first of two four-game A-10 series.
