Tennis Falters In Opening Spring Match At BC

Minutewomen turn attention toward hosting St. Bonaventure on Sat., Jan. 25
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - University of Massachusetts tennis returned to action following winter break with a 7-0 loss at Boston College on Thursday afternoon. It marked the first dual match for the Minutewomen on the season while BC improved to 3-0 overall with the victory.
Massachusetts took the No. 1 doubles match when the combined effort of Janja Kovacevic and Martina Bocchi saw the pairing defeat Dasha Possokhova and Loren Houkova, 6-2. However, the Eagles posted wins at No. 2 and No. 3, and secured the doubles point as a result.Â
Anna Napadiy (No. 3) and Jovana Bogicevic (No. 5) battled back and forth during singles action before ultimately dropping their three-set matches.
Possokhova took the first set from Napadiy, 6-2; however, the Lviv, Ukraine, native fought back and won the second set, 7-6 (2). Possokhova secured the match victory with a 6-4 margin in the decisive third set. Bogicevic secured the first set over Elene Tsokilauri before Tsokilauri rallied for the 4-6, 6-1, 10-6 outcome in favor of the Eagles.
The Minutewomen play their first home match of the season next when St. Bonaventure visits the Bay Road Tennis Club on Sat., Jan. 25 at 1 p.m.
