Minutewomen mirror previous win with doubles point, triumphs at No. 2-4 singles
SMITHFIELD, R.I. - Massachusetts tennis capped its non-conference competition with a 4-0 shutout of Bryant on the road Sunday. The Minutewomen took the doubles point and posted victories at No. 2-4 singles - identical to the team's Friday win over Stony Brook. The win bumped UMass to 15-4 overall while Bryant fell to 8-9 on the year.
The win marked Massachusetts' fifth consecutive and the team's 13th in its last 15 matches. The 15 matches are the most won by the team in a single season since the 2014-15 squad went 17-5.
In doubles, Massachusetts won at No. 1 and No. 3 for the first point of the day. Janja Kovacevic and Martina Bocchi bested Ada Boru and Sarah Hickey 6-3 in the No. 1 match before Ruth Crawford and Ashley Avery took an identical match from Leanne Kendall and Gabrielle Bergeron at No. 3.
With the one-point lead, Massachusetts quickly worked through singles play for the shutout. Crawford doubled the team's lead with her 6-0, 6-2 dominance over Sarah Hickey at No. 2 and Anna Napadiy took a 6-1, 6-0 match from Aleksi Gottlieb at No. 3. Bocchi finished the match with her win at No. 4 over Megan Tan 6-1, 6-4.
The Minutewomen wrap up the regular season with a pair of matches at home. Massachusetts hosts Rhode Island on Thurs., April 18 at 2 p.m. before Fordham visits town on Fri., April 19 at 2 p.m.
