Tennis Defeated at Brown in Hard-Fought Dual Match

Minutewomen force three singles matches to tie-breaker sets in loss.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - A trio of straight set wins in singles play clinched a 6-1 win for Brown on Friday afternoon handing the UMass tennis team its first dual match loss of the season. The Minutewomen were able to force three singles matches to tie-breaker sets with Ana Yrazusta able to take a win at No. 3 play.
The match started with the Bears winning the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead. At No. 2 doubles, the Minutewomen were saw Yrazusta and Janja Kovacevic post a 6-1 victory with Brown taking wins in the No. 1 and No. 2 matches.
In singles play, Brown picked up straight set wins in the No. 2 and No. 4 matches to set up the team win after then taking the No. 1 match.
UMass picked up a win at No. 3 singles with Yrazusta rallying back in three sets. She fell in the first set 6-4 before taking the second set 6-2. She clinched the tie-breaker set with a 7-6 score.
Both Brittany Collens at No. 5 singles and Martina Bocchi at No. 6 singles forced three-set matches. Collens lost her first set 6-3 before winning 7-5 in the second. Bocchi also fell in her first set 6-2 before winning the second set 6-2. Both matches used super tie-breakers to close out the match. Collens fell 10-5 while Bocchi fell 10-3.
The Minutewomen will return to action on Sunday (12:30 p.m.) against Fairleigh Dickinson at the Bay Road Tennis Center. Admission and parking are both free to all.
