WORCESTER, Mass. - University of Massachusetts men's track and field freshman Jonathan Collins and senior Nick Ingham finished day one at the Holy Cross Decathlon sitting in second and third place, respectively, following Wednesday's action in Worcester, Mass.

Collins holds a score of 3,419 through five events and capped off the day with a first-place finish in 400 meter run with a time of 51.32 seconds, good for 755 points. He ran the 100 meter dash in 11.41 seconds to collect 771 points towards his total and cleared 6 feet, .75 inches high jump for 670 points. Collins collected 650 points in long jump and 573 points in shot put, as well.

Ingham is in third place with 3,344 points at the conclusion of day one. Ingham's second-place finish in shot put earned 629 points for his 40 foot, 7.5 inch throw and he took second in high jump, as well, collecting 749 points for his 6-foot 4.25-inch leap. He scored 697 points with a time of 11.77 seconds in the 100 meter dash and added point totals of 600 and 669 points in the long jump and 400 meter, respectively.

Tomorrow competition picks up with 110 meter hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and 1,500 meter run to determine the final score. Action begins at 10:00 a.m. in Worcester, Mass.
