Tennis Posts Shutout Against Providence In Amherst

AMHERST, Mass. - The UMass women's tennis team defeated the Providence Friars, 7-0, today in Amherst at the Mullins Center Tennis Courts. The Minutewomen lost just four games in the doubles portion of the day and took every singles match in emphatic fashion. UMass moves to 9-7 overall on the season (5-1 A-10) while Providence College drops to 7-6 (0-2 Big East) with the loss.
The Minutewomen started out the day by taking all three doubles matches. Yuliana Motyl and Chantal Swiszcz notched their eighth win from first doubles by a score of 8-2. Judy Dixon decided to switch up the usual No. 2 and No. 3 doubles pairings by playing Sonia Bokhari and Chanel Glasper at No. 2 doubles while Jessica Podlofsky and Hazuki Onaga were slotted at No. 3 doubles. The pairings had respective wins of 8-0 and 8-2.
UMass continued the success by grabbing wins in all six singles matches. Bokhari posted her second singles win this season from the No. 1 spot (12 overall win) while Motyl pushed her singles win total to 10 matches with a victory in three sets from the No. 2 slot. Bokhari now has a three-match winning streak.
From No. 3 singles, Jessica Podlofsky picked up a 6-1, 6-0 win, improving to 9-7 in dual match play and 19-9 overall. Julia Comas put up her third singles victory in four matches with a 5-7, 7-6, 10-4 win over Taylor Corder from fourth singles.
Freshman Hazuki Onaga got back to her winning ways with a 6-2, 6-1 victory from fifth singles. The win marked Onaga's first from the No. 5 singles slot.
Chanel Glasper posted her 20th singles win of the season, taking a 6-2, 6-0 decision over Alli Carnall. The freshman from Plano, Texas is now 11-5 in dual matches this season and has won two straight matches.
The Minutewomen will next head to Fairfield, Conn. for a bout with Sacred Heart on Tuesday, April 3 at 3:00 p.m.
