Tennis Takes Down Charlotte On Tuesday, 5-2

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The UMass women's tennis team defeated the Charlotte 49ers by a score of 5-2 Tuesday afternoon in South Carolina. The Minutewomen improve to 8-6 on the season with the win after suffering a 6-1 loss to Charleston Southern on Monday. It marked the second match of the South Carolina road trip which will be concluded Thursday, Mar. 22 at 2:00 p.m. against the College of Charleston.
UMass was able to start the day by winning two out of the three doubles matches. Yuliana Motyl and Chantal Swiszcz grabbed a win from No. 1 doubles, 8-4, while Chanel Glasper and Jessica Podlofsky took the win from No. 3 doubles, 8-6. Motyl and Swiszcz have now won seven out of their last eight matches from first doubles.
In the singles portion of the match UMass was able to keep the momentum going by notching wins at the top four singles spots. Motyl, Sonia Bokhari, Julia Comas and Podlofsky all won their respective matches to give UMass the 5-2 edge. Motyl's 6-3, 6-1 win from first singles was her fourth singles win out of last five matches. Comas had the lone singles victory during Monday's match and extended her current singles win streak to four straight with her 6-1, 6-2 decision.
