Minutewomen Fall To Iowa State, 7-0

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - It was a tough Saturday morning as the UMass women's tennis team fell to the impressive Iowa State Cyclones by a score of 7-0. The Minutewomen (4-3) had a well-fought day that consisted of many close matches involving three tiebreaks.
In doubles, the Cyclones tried to make a clean sweep but were stopped by the No. 3 team of Magdalena Ploch and Kaitlyn Carpenter, who won in a close match, 8-6. Both No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches were close fought with Iowa State pulling ahead, 8-5 and 8-6, respectively. The Cyclones took the doubles point and gained momentum moving into singles play.
Ploch looked strong in the first set against Iowa State's Liza Wischer dropping the set in a close 7-5 decision. Wischer was able to pull out the second set lending Ploch her first loss at the No. 1 singles position. Candynce Boney at No. 2 singles and Carpenter at No. 3 both pushed their opponents to a second set tiebreaker. but were unable to pull out the win.
At No. 5, Maude Lecluyse fell 6-4, 6-3 to Liza Wischer, the only undefeated Cyclone.
At sixth singles, Laura Danai forced her opponent to a deciding third set super tiebreak, but Iowa State took it 10-7.
The Minutewomen will compete Wednesday Feb. 25 at Dartmouth with play beginning at 5:00 p.m.
