Minutemen Unable to Overcome Second Half Surge, Fall 2-0 to Tigers

PRINCETON, N.J. -- Massachusetts (4-2-2) suffered its first road loss of the season, falling short to the defending Ivy League Champions, Princeton (3-1), in a 2-0 decision on Tuesday night.

Breaking Down The Action

UMass earned a corner kick in the second minute of play, resulting in a shot on goal by Matt Cence that was saved by Andrew Samuels.
Dean Linden made his first save of the night in his second career appearance, stopping a shot by Stephen Duncan in the 36th minute.
In the 39th minute, Magnus Ingi Halldorsson fired another quality scoring chance for the Minutemen, as Samuels was able to make the stop.
Linden halted another opportunity at net for the Tigers, recording another save in the 45th minute to keep the game tied at the half.
The defensive battle continued in the second 45, with neither side able to find a quality chance through the 77th minute.
A breakaway chance for Princeton was impressively stopped by a charging Linden as the stalemate remained.
Massachusetts conceded the first goal of the night in the 80th minute, as a rocketing shot in the box just missed the hands of a diving Linden.
Princeton would notch a last-minute score on a counterattack in the 89th minute, sealing the 2-0 loss for UMass.
