Football Falters At Kent State

KENT, Ohio – Massachusetts football faltered to Kent State, 42-6, on Saturday afternoon at Dix Stadium (11,523). 

Da'Realyst Clark returned the opening kickoff for a Kent State touchdown and then Sebastian Brown added a 36-yard receiving touchdown for a 14-0 Golden Flashes lead at 5:47 of the first quarter.  

Massachusetts capped a 22-play, 54-yard drive with a field goal by Derek Morris to make it a 14-3 game.  

A 25-yard touchdown reception by DaShawn Martin finished a 10-play, 75-yard drive, to pull the Golden Flashes ahead, 21-3. UMass added to its total, 21-6, with time winding down in the first half with a 33-yard field goal by Morris.  

Kent State extended its lead, 28-6, with a Terik Mulder 10-yard receiving touchdown at the 5:26 mark of the third quarter. On the next possession, the Golden Flashes' Dru DeShields threw a 34-yard touchdown pass to Ardell Banks to push ahead, 35-6.  

An interception allowed the Kent State drive to start on UMass' 34-yard line. A 25-yard run up the middle put the Golden Flashes ahead 42-6 with 3:22 left in the third.  

Neither team scored in the final quarter, as Kent State was able to come away with a 42-6 win.
