Katie Gatza Earns 2024 Atlantic 10 Postgraduate Scholarship

Gatza was one of 15 winners honored by the Atlantic 10

AMHERST, Mass. - University of Massachusetts rower Katie Gatza has been named an Atlantic 10 Postgraduate scholarship winner the conference announced on Wednesday (May 15).  

Gatza has spent the 2024 season as a member of UMass' Second Varsity Four boat. That boat placed third at the Saint Joseph's Invitational, first in the morning race of the Dartmouth Double Duels and, most recently, third in the Petite Final at the Eastern Sprints on May 5.  

A psychology major in the college of natural sciences, Gatza has been named to the Dean's List five times while at UMass (Fall and Spring 2023, Fall 2022, Fall 2021, Fall 2020). She is the Co-President of SAAC and an advocate for mental health and belonging within the department of athletics. Additionally, she is a Volunteer Liaison for the Amherst Survival Center and a member of the OneMass DEI Committee for Athletics. 

A native of Sackville, Nova Scotia, Gatza also has a minor in Sociology and a certificate in Social Work. 

Gatza and her teammates will now take part in the 2024 Atlantic 10 Rowing Championship on Saturday, May 18 on the Cooper River in Pennsauken, New Jersey.

To be considered for the Postgraduate Scholarship, student-athletes must have performed with distinction both in the classroom and in their respective sports throughout their career, while demonstrating exemplary conduct in the community.
 
The Postgraduate Scholarship Program is part of the conference's broad-based commitment to student-athlete opportunities and academics. The conference consistently ranks at the top among all Division I Conferences in both Graduation Success Rate (GSR) and the Academic Progress Rate (APR) data released by the NCAA.
