Carew, Danahy And Olbrys Earn UMass Student-Athlete Of The Week Honors

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts graduate student Bobby Carew of men's cross country, graduate student Claire Danahy of field hockey and junior Megan Olbrys of women's basketball have been selected as the UMass Student-Athletes of the Week, it was announced on Tuesday.The trio will be honored at the UMass Sports Luncheon this Wednesday, November 20, at 12 p.m. at the Berkshire Dining Common.
Guest speakers at this week's luncheon will be women's basketball head coach Mike Leflar and marching band director Tim Anderson.
Carew became the first Minuteman to earn All-Region recognition since 2018, placing in the top-25 overall at the men's cross country NCAA Northeast Regional Championships, last Friday. The Milton, Massachusetts native helped UMass to its best team finish at the NCAA Regional meet since 2008 (seventh) as he completed the 10K in 30:21.88 for 17th overall to lead the Minutemen.
Danahy scored the only goal and game-winner in a 1-0 victory against Harvard in the 2024 NCAA Field Hockey regional final on Sunday, sending the Minutewomen to their first Final Four Appearance since 1992.
Olbrys tallied a career-high 20 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals on 7-for-12 shooting from the field in women's basketball's 76-53 win over Monmouth last Friday. Olbrys scored 10 of her 20 in the fourth quarter going 3-3 from the field and 4-4 from the charity stripe in the final 10 minutes.
