Massachusetts Tennis Stumbles Against Rutgers In 5-2 Setback

Napadiy and Krasakova secure singles victories against Rutgers.
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – University of Massachusetts tennis team suffered a 5-2 setback to Big 10 foe Rutgers University on Saturday evening at the East Brunswick Racquet Club.
The loss moves UMass to 3-2 overall on the season.
After earning a default point at court No. 3, Rutgers secured the doubles point at No. 2 as Jackie Lopez and Arina Valitova defeated partners Danielle Hack and Anna Napadiy. Duo Melisa Senli and Mariya Krasakova were tied 4-4 with the Scarlet Knights' Tara Chilton and Mai Nguyen before the match came to a halt.
With Rutgers leading 3-0, due to default points at courts No. 5 and No. 6, Napadiy picked up the Minutewomen's first point of the evening with a 7-5, 6-3 win at court No. 4 over Rutgers' Valitova. The Scarlet Knights clinched the match at No. 2 singles, as Chilton took down Hack, 6-2, 6-7 (8), 6-3. Despite the clinching point, Krasakova earned a point with a 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (7) triumph at court No. 3, but Rutgers sealed the deal with a point at No. 1 singles.
UMass welcomes Holy Cross and Bryant to the Bay Road Indoor Tennis Center in Amherst, Massachusetts, on Saturday, February 25, at 10:45 a.m. and 3 p.m., respectively, before hosting Army on Sunday, February 26, for a 3 p.m. match.
