Tennis Caps Opening Weekend With Victory Over Rutgers

Minutewomen take 10-of-12 matches from Scarlet Knights
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - University of Massachusetts tennis finished off its opening weekend of action at the Brown Invitational with a commanding effort against Rutgers which featured wins in 10-of-12 matches. The Minutewomen took 3-of-4 in doubles and 7-of-8 singles matches for the resounding win.
Rutgers claimed victory in No. 1 singles, 6-4, but Massachusetts held the edge at No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 doubles with identical 6-3 scores.
Ana Yrazusta and Laura Moreno won over Mingxiu Du and Jaci Cochrane at No. 2 while Anna Napadiy and Ashley Avery added a No. 3 triumph over Lee Levy and Chloe Lee. Martina Bocchi and Jovana Bogicevic sealed doubles with the victory over Isabelle Da Silva and Kat Rosenberger.
Yrazusta added a 6-2, 6-4 decision over Du at No. 1 singles and Ruth Crawford posted a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Lee at No. 2 singles. Janja Kovacevic fought through a close first set at No. 3 against Kat Muzik before Kovacevic prevailed 7-6 (4). The native of Serbia breezed through the second set, 6-0 though for the third singles victory of the day for the Minutewomen.
Rutgers' sole singles victory came at No. 4, where Maya Jacobs earned a 7-5, 6-0 score over Laura Moreno.
Four additional Minutewomen won in singles, including Napadiy (7-6 [2], 6-4) at No. 5, Bocchi (6-4, 6-3) at No. 6, Avery (6-3, 1-6 [12-10]) at No. 7 and Bogicevic (6-2, 4-6 [10-4] at No. 8.
