FAIRFAX, Va. - University of Massachusetts men’s track and field wrapped up its weekend at the Atlantic 10 Championships on Sunday with senior Ben Groleau and junior Kris Horn winning gold medals on day two of the meet at George Mason Stadium. The Minutemen totaled 63 points to finish fifth of 11 in the team standings, while George Mason was crowned the 2016 A-10 champion with 215 points.

Groleau defended his 2015 title in the 1,500m, finishing first with a time of 3 minutes, 52.70 seconds, which met the qualifying standard for the IC4A Championships.

Horn, who took home gold in heptathlon at the Indoor Atlantic 10 Championships back in February, set an A-10 record with his winning score of 7,061 points in decathlon. Senior Nick Ingham and freshman Jonathan Collins both scored for the Minutemen in the event as well, with 6,342 points and 5,811 points, respectively.

Sophomore Evan Burton captured fourth in discus with a 142-foot, 6-inch toss, while junior Brett Davies placed eighth in shot put, throwing 46 feet, 2.5 inches. Freshman Cole Acoveno rounded out the individual scorers for UMass, taking eighth in high jump with a leap of 6 feet, 5.5 inches.

The Minutemen scored in all three relay events, as well, placing fifth in the 4x100m (42.56) and eighth in both the 4x800m and the 4x400 with times of 7 minutes, 48.61 seconds and 3 minutes, 26.18 seconds, respectively.

UMass will next travel to the IC4A Championships in Princeton, N.J. Competition in the three-day meet begins on Fri., May 13, at 10 a.m.
