Minutewomen Fall To Florida Atlantic, 5-2

BOCA RATON, Fla. - Playing for the second time in the span of 24 hours, the UMass women's tennis team fell to Florida Atlantic, 5-2, on a rainy Tuesday afternoon in Florida. UMass' two points came from Candynce Boney and Laura Danai, who won at No. 2 and 6 singles, respectively. The Minutewomen fall to 8-8 overall with six regular season tilts remaining until the Atlantic 10 Championships.
The Owls took the doubles point with wins at Nos. 1 and 3. Tuesday marked the first defeat handed to the team of Danai and Maude Lecluyse, who lost at No. 1, 8-5. They had entered a perfect 10-0 on the season. Kaitlyn Carpenter and Tanisha Hodgson did team for an impressive 8-2 win at No. 2.
Danai made quick work of Cassie Bergerson at sixth singles, 6-0, 6-0 which tied the score at one. Florida Atlantic took Nos. 3 and 4 for a 3-1 advantage, but Boney grinded out a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 2 to pull the Minutewomen back within one. It wasn't enough though as Dominique Wimmer topped Caprenter at No. 1 to clinch the match in Florida Atlantic's favor. Lauren MacKay fought hard at fifth singles, but lost in the only singles match to go three sets, 6-4, 3-6, 6-1.
The Minutewomen are back in action in 10 days as they travel to Virginia to face Old Dominion on Mar. 27. They then face A-10 rival Richmond on Mar. 28.
