Doubleheader Split for Softball vs. FDU

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts softball hosted Fairleigh Dickinson for a doubleheader, at Sortino Field, on Wednesday. The Minutewomen fell 4-3 in the first game of the day and defeated FDU, 5-1, in the second game of the day.
Game One
Freshman Quinn Breidenbach started in the circle and pitched 5.2 innings, allowing seven hits and four runs while striking out two batters. Junior Meg Colleran came on in relief to face four batters.
Sophomore Kaitlyn Stavinoha went two-for-four at the plate with two RBI. Freshman Nicole Imhof recorded a hit and an RBI. Freshman Madison Gimpl pinch hitting, sophomore Kaycee Carbone and senior Tara Klee scored UMass' runs.
Game Two
Colleran started in the circle for the Minutewomen and pitched seven innings. She gave up one run, four hits and struck out eight.
Sophomore Eric Stacevicz went two-for-three and scored two runs. Freshman Kate Dennis went two-for-two and scored two runs. Freshman Candace Denis was credited with an RBI and a run scored.
The Minutewomen will play a three-game series at St. Louis April 8-9. Game times are set for 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday with the finale at 12 p.m. Sunday.
