Connecticut, Boston College Up Next for UMass

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts softball (19-18, 8-3 Atlantic 10) will travel to Storrs, Conn. to face Connecticut (14-22, 1-7 AAC) Tuesday at 4 p.m. On Wednesday, the Minutewomen travel to Boston College (24-17, 8-6 ACC) for a 4 p.m. contest. Since March 11, UMass has won 16 of its last 20 games.
A Look Back
UMass hosted a three-game with Fordham on Friday and Saturday, April 14-15. The Minutewomen bested the Rams, 5-4, on Friday, 12-4 in game one on Saturday and fell 4-7 in game two. Junior Meg Colleran picked up her tenth and eleven win of the season this weekend, pitching a total of 13 innings and striking out nine batters. The Minutewomen collected their first series win over Fordham since the 2012 season.
Atlantic 10 Roundup
As a squad, Massachusetts sits at second in the Atlantic 10 standings. The Minutewomen rank No. 3 in team pitching with a 3.02 ERA and No. 2 in opposing batting average with a .235. The squad ranks No. 4 in the league with 267 hits.
The Huskies
Connecticut fell to East Carolina in a three-game series last weekend, April 13-15. Freshman Katie Koshes paces the squad's pitching with a 2.58 ERA, throwing 78.2 innings and striking out 98 batters. Freshman Carli Cutler leads the Huskies' offense with a .340 batting average, picking up 35 hits, 14 RBI, three home runs, 10 doubles and 11 runs scored.
The Eagles
North Carolina got the best of Boston College in a three-game series April 14-15 but the Eagles maintain a 24-17 record. Senior Taylor Coroneos holds a .346 average with 47 hits, 27 runs scored and 10 RBI. Junior Jessica Dreswick paces the Eagles' pitching with a 2.16 ERA, throwing 168.2 innings and striking out 126 batters.
Cozza Comeback
Senior Jena Cozza was named the Atlantic 10 Softball Co-Player of the Week, it was announced by the league on Monday. She paced the Minutewomen to a 4-1 record last week, including two wins over previously top-ranked Fordham.
She took eight at bats as the DH in a doubleheader at Rhode Island on Wednesday and made her defensive season debut against Fordham during the weekend, playing all three games at third base. She batted .500 over the five contests with eight hits, seven runs scored, four RBI and her first home run of the season. She struck out just once and walked four times. She posted an on-base percentage of .619 and a slugging percentage of .750.
In The Circle
Colleran (11-9) and freshman Candace Denis (7-7) are splitting a majority of the starts for UMass. Colleran has an ERA of 2.96 in 19 starts and 14 complete games (120.2 total innings). Denis has an ERA of 2.36 in 15 starts and 12 complete games (104.0 total innings).
Sophomore Studs
Kaitlyn Stavinoha leads the team with a .355 batting average, 31 RBI and one home run. Sophomore Kaycee Carbone sits at No. 3 on the squad with a batting average of .302, 32 hits and leads the team with two homeruns. Sophomore Erin Stacevicz's .331 batting average is good for No. 2 on the team with 44 hits and 29 runs scored.
