Savannah “Sav” Davison joined the University of Massachusetts rowing staff as an assistant coach in August 2021, after four years coaching at Saratoga Rowing Association.
At UMass, Davison led the 1v4+ to consecutive 2024 and 2025 A-10 Championship wins. Davison specializes in biometric data analysis, coaching small boats in the fall and collaborating with coach Gotsch in the spring to develop the 3v8+ group. These collaborative efforts helped UMass rise in conference rankings, from fourth to second in the team’s previous conference. Off the water, they have established heart rate testing standards, implemented data management systems and streamlined team communication.
At the Saratoga Rowing Association, Davison coached athletes at various skill levels, from learn-to-row middle schoolers to U23 world champions. They served as the lead coach for the club’s learn-to-row program, Director of Operations for the middle school program, and head coach of the ninth-grade girls' team. They also led the U23 ARION program during the 2020 - 2021 rowing season. Four of their athletes secured spots on the United States’ U23 World Championship boats. In addition to coaching, Davison managed SRA’s marketing, taught erging classes at local middle schools, and developed a knack for pushing docks around for the spring racing season.
Davison walked on to the Washington State University rowing team during their first year of university. As a novice, they were part of the third-place Novice 8+ crew at the Pac-12 Championships. During their junior and senior years, Davison earned a spot in the 1v8+. The team achieved huge success those years, earning 7th- and 12th-place finishes at the 2015 and 2016 NCAA championships, respectively. During their senior year, Davison earned PAC-12 All-Athlete recognition. Davison graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology. After graduation, Davison moved to Boston and then Saratoga Springs to train full-time with Riverside Boat Club and the ARION program. As a senior athlete, Davison placed 12th overall in the spring speed order and earned wins at the Royal Canadian Henley.
Davison originally hails from Aberdeen, Washington, and grew up hiking along the Olympic Peninsula. When they are not coaching, they can be found knitting, running, or doing homework for their Master’s courses at Isenberg School of Management.
