Cross Country Duo Named UMass Student-Athletes Of The Week

AMHERST, Mass. – UMass cross country junior Collin Catherwood and sophomore Agnes Thundal have been named UMass Student-Athletes of the Week after both posting individual race wins at the Maribel Sanchez Souther Memorial Invitational this past weekend. The duo will be honored at the UMass Sports Luncheon this Wednesday in the Berkshire room at the Berkshire Dining Commons.
Guest speakers at this week's luncheon will be softball head coach Danielle Henderson, football general manager Jared Osumah and marching band director Tim Anderson.
Catherwood posted his second individual win in as many meets to start the 2025 season, taking first out of 57 runners at the Maribel Sanchez Souther Memorial Invitational. The Central Valley, N.Y., native finished 13.2 seconds ahead of the next-closest competitor with a time of 24:34.90 in the 8K and helped the Minutemen finish second (43 points) in the team scoring, racing against Northeastern (35), Dartmouth (50) and Vermont (94).
Thundal led the field to help women's cross country to victory in a four-school meet at the Maribel Sanchez Souther Memorial Invitational on Saturday. The Minutewomen posted a score of 27, competing against Dartmouth (41), Northeastern (65) and Vermont (101). Thundal, a native of Gothenburg, Sweden, earned her first individual win and was UMass' No. 1 scorer for first time in her career. She finished first out of 67 runners in the 6K with a time of 21:42.50.
