AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts pole vaulter Chloe Taylor and Felicity Pye have both been selected as UMass Student-Athletes of the Week. The duo will be honored at the UMass Sports Luncheon this Wednesday in the Berkshire Room of the Berkshire Dining Commons beginning at noon.
Taylor had an impressive start to her outdoor season, breaking the women's pole vault program record at the Flagship Spring Opener on Saturday, clearing 13'1.75". The Frisco, Texas native now holds the top spot on both the indoor and outdoor program leaderboards.
Pye stroked the first varsity four boat at the Saint Joe's Invite in Leonia, New Jersey. As a stroke seat, Pye sits in the front of the boat and sets the rhythm, pace, and energy that the entire boat follows. Navigating challenging conditions, her job was even more important this weekend. Successfully overcoming this challenge, Pye and her crew recorded a dominating win against A-10 competition George Washington, Rhode Island and Saint Joe's and set the fastest time of all boats in the morning heat. In the afternoon, Pye's four raced UConn and Boston College and earned a decisive second win of the regatta, a third of a boat length over UConn in second.
