Massachusetts Swim & Dive Land Seven On CSC Academic All-District Team

Andrew Bell highlights the septet as a CSC Academic All-America Finalist.

AMHERST, Mass. -  Seven members of the University of Massachusetts swim and dive team earned Academic All-District honors, as announced by the College Sports Communicators organization on Tuesday. Andrew Bell, Beau Bengston, Jude Boukarroum, Lindsay Burbage, Anna Kwon, Sammy Quigg and Shreeya Sinha were selected for their efforts in the pool and in the classroom, while Bell advanced to the Academic All-America ballot as finalist.
 
The 2024-25 Academic All-District® Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in the pool and in the classroom. The student-athletes must maintain a 3.5 GPA or higher.
 
Bell, a South Windsor, Connecticut, native, is pursuing a bachelor's degree in Computer Sciences and Mathematics. He claimed first place in 20 across both the one-meter and three-meter diving events, while breaking two previous pool records at the Justin Jennings Invitational from 1987 and 1994. During the Atlantic 10 Championships, the junior picked up two gold medals in both the one-meter and three-meter dive, breaking an A-10 Championship meet record in the three-meter dive with a six-dive total of 428.15. The junior qualified for the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships after becoming the champion in both the one-meter and three-meter dive at the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships. He tallied a 12-dive total of 747.25 in the one-meter dive and a score of 773.90, setting new school record in both events. Bell became the only Minuteman diver in school history to represent Massachusetts at the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships in back-to-back years.
 
While at the NCAA Championships, Bell finished 22nd  in the one-meter event, with a six-dive total of 331.35, while scoring a 304.90 to earn 35th in the three-meter event. Bell earned A-10 Performer of the Week four times this season, leading to being named the league's Men's Diver of the Year in back-to-back seasons.
 
Bengston, a Tifton, Georgia, native, is earning his bachelor's degree in Psychology. At the A-10 Championships, the senior claimed 11th in the 100 backstroke with a time of 48.85, marking the fourth-best time in program history, while placing 15th in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:49.09. He helped the 200 medley relay team to an eighth-place finish with a time of 1:29.43, and aided the 200 freestyle relay team to eighth with a combined time of 1:21.41. Bengston was also a member of the eighth-place 400 medley relay that swam a time of 3:16.29.
 
Boukarroum, a Brookfield, Connecticut, native, is pursuing a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. He swam into sixth in the 500 freestyle at the A-10 Championships with a time of 4:30.12, while finishing seventh in the 1650 freestyle with the program's eighth-best time of 15:44.30.  
 
Quigg, a Merritt Island, Florida, native, is currently working towards his bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. He touched the wall fourth in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:37.95, before finishing the 100 freestyle with a time of 44.24. He also was 15th in the 50 freestyle with a time of 20.50. Quigg helped the 800 freestyle relay team to fifth with a combined time of 6:36.69, while aiding the 200 freestyle relay team to eighth with a time of 1:21.41. The junior also anchored the 400 medley relay team that finished with a time of 3:16.29 to take eighth and was a member of the sixth-place 400 freestyle relay team that combined for a time of 2:57.97.
 
Burbage, a Charleston, South Carolina, native, is earning her bachelor's degree in Kinesiology. She finished first in the B-finals in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:01.72 at the A-10 Championships, marking the second-best time in program history. Burbage also had the fifth-best time in UMass history in the 200 individual medley at the A-10 Championships with a time of 2:05.30, while swimming the fourth-best time in program history in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:15.65, placing first in the B-Finals at the championships. She helped the 400 medley relay team to a sixth place finish with a time of 3:44.83.
 
Kwon, an Ellicott City, Maryland, native, is pursuing her bachelor's degree in Operations and Information Management. She took fourth in the 200 freestyle with a personal-best time of 1:50.18 at the A-1 0Championships, marking the seventh-best time in program history. The senior also took fourth in the 300 butterfly, swimming the third-best all-time mark in UMass history with a time of 2:00.46. Kwon aided the 800 freestyle relay team to eighth place with a time of 7:25.80, while helping the 400 freestyle relay team to eighth with a combined time of 3:26.11.
 
Sinha, a Riverwoods, Illinois, native, is working towards her bachelor's in Finance. At the A-10 Championships, she finished first in the B-Finals in the one-meter dive with a six-dive total of 261.25, while completing the three-meter dive in eighth with a total of 216.75. In the season, the junior placed second with a score of 294.68 at Boston University to record the sixth-best total in program history in the one-meter dive. She also sat atop the podium in the three-meter dive at Boston University with a total of 304.88, ranking sixth in the program's all-time records.
 
Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced on April 22.
