Three Honored As UMass Student-Athletes Of The Week

Bell, Middleton and Taylor will be recognized at the UMass Sports Luncheon on Wednesday.
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts student-athletes Andrew Bell of men's swim and dive, Andrew Middleton of baseball and Chloe Taylor of women's track and field were tabbed as the UMassFive Student-Athletes of the Week honor, as announced on Tuesday. The duo will be recognized at the UMass Sports Luncheon this Wednesday, February 26, at 12 p.m. in the Berkshire Room at the Berkshire Dining Commons.
Speakers at this week's luncheon will be Men's Basketball Associate Head Coach Allen Edwards and Head Football Coach Joe Harasymiak. Cost to attend is $16.25 ($14.63 for UMass Alumni).
At the Atlantic 10 Championships, Bell tabbed the A-10 Men's Diver of the Year accolade for the second straight season, after earning gold medals in both diving events. Bell sat atop the podium in the one-meter five with a total of 359.80. During the three-meter dive, the junior scored a six-dive total of 428.15 to place first. His three-meter dive total marked a new A-10 Championship meet record.
Middleton recorded a 0.00 ERA and earned the winning decision in the 4-3 victory in extra innings over Bethune-Cookman in game two of the road series on Saturday. Middleton allowed no hits, no runs, walked three and dealt a career-high 11 strikeouts on the night in 4.1 innings of work.
Taylor secured gold in the women's pole vault, clearing 12'11.75", which was also good enough for the highest clear in program history.
