Massachusetts Drops A-10 Home Opener To Richmond, 72-64

AMHERST, MASS. -- Massachusetts basketball (5-10, 0-2 A-10) fell 64-72 to Richmond (7-8, 2-0) on Saturday afternoon at the Mullins Center. Four minutemen finished the game in double figures, but Massachusetts could not close out the victory in the A-10 home opener.
Jaylen Curry led all scorers with 18 points, adding eight rebounds and a pair of assists on the afternoon. Backcourt mate Rahsool Diggins followed closely behind, recording 16 points on 5-of-11 shooting from the field.
Jayden Ndjigue did a little bit of everything totaling 11 points, four rebounds and a pair of steals. The Ayer, Massachusetts native shot a perfect 3-of-3 from the field and 5-of-5 from the free throw line.
The Spiders were led by DeLonnie Hunt who tallied 16 points and seven assits in 36 minutes of action.

- Richmond's DeLonnie Hunt sunk a three-point to tie the game at 27-27 with 4:36 on the clock.
- Another Hunt three-pointer ended the half, giving Richmond the 34-31 advantage going into the break.
- Richmond opened the second on a 5-0 run capped by a driving layup from Hunt just 1:03 into the half.
- Diggins responded with a triple from the left wing to make it 39-34 Richmond with 18:16 to play.
- A pair of free throws from Richmond's Dusan Neskovic provided the Spiders with a 42-54 lead, their largest of the afternoon.
- Jaylen Curry and Ndjigue each worked their way to the free throw line to cut the deficit back to 54-46 with 11:45 left in regulation.
- A pair of free throws from Curry capped a 9-3 Massachusetts run, cutting the deficit to four points, 59-55.
- The Minutemen remained within striking distance on the final 6:39 on the clock but could not get the deficit down to a one possession game.
