Recinos Second Half Brace Guides Women’s Soccer To 4-2 Win Over George Washington

Bella Recinos registered a career-high two goals and a career-best seven shots on the afternoon.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senior midfielder Bella Recino's two goals in the second half, marking her first career brace, aided the University of Massachusetts women's soccer team to a 4-2 victory over George Washington at GW Soccer Field on Thursday afternoon.
Massachusetts improved to 9-3-1 overall and 4-1-0 in the Atlantic 10 Conference, while George Washington dropped to 3-6-3 overall on the year, including 1-2-1 in league play.
UMass got on the board first in the opening 45 minutes, to make it a 1-0 contest. Senior forward Ashley Lamond dribbled the ball just outside the box, before taking a shot that bounced past the George Washington goalkeeper Katie Silverstein. The ball then continued to bounce into the back of the net in the 23rd minute.
In the second half, the Minutewomen extended their lead at the 56:50 mark. Recinos secured her sixth goal of the season after settling the ball in front of the six-yard box. Recinos booted the ball with her left foot towards the goal, finding the back right corner to pull Massachusetts ahead, 2-0. The Revolutionaries scored in the 67th minute, as Isabel Kelly capitalized on a penalty kick opportunity, before Kelly knocked in her second of the day at the 73:34 mark to bring the game to a 2-2 draw.
Recinos broke the tie with her second goal of the day, as she collected the ball in traffic. Recinos passed the ball to freshman forward Morgan Bellamy for a give-and-go, as Bellamy sent it back to Recinos. Recinos dribbled the ball into the box and kicked it through the legs of the goalkeeper at 81:04 of the contest. It marked the first point of Bellamy's career as she came away with the assist.
Senior midfielder Emma Pedolzky made it a 4-2 match in the 85th minute, as she dribbled the ball from midfield into the box. She moved around a defender, before shooting the ball to the middle of the goal. The Minutewomen were able to hold on to the lead, as redshirt senior goalkeeper Bella Mendoza saved a header with only 32 seconds remaining in the contest.
UMass outshot GW, 21-15, with 10 shots on goal and only five of the Revolutionaries' shots on target. Massachusetts held the edge in corner kicks, taking seven to George Washington's six on the day.

Recinos also tallied a career-best seven shots, including a career-high six on goal. Pedolzky recorded four shots with two on target, while graduate student forward Karina Groff had three shots on the afternoon.
Mendoza played the full 90 minutes in net, coming up with three saves and allowing two goals. GW's Silverstein saw action for the full 90 minutes, as well, stopping seven shots and letting in four goals.
