Ninth-year staff member, team’s recruiting coordinator begins fall season in new role
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts rowing head coach Jim Dietz announced the promotion of Andrea Landry (Morand) to associate head coach on Thurs., Sept. 7. Landry begins her ninth season with the program, seventh in a full-time coaching role and fourth as the team's recruiting coordinator in 2017-18.
Â
"Andrea's promotion to associate head coach is long overdue," Dietz said. "Her dedication to the success of the team in every aspect far exceeds her job description. She is directly responsible for our continued growth and success."
Â
As the associate head coach, Landry will continue her role as recruiting coordinator for the rowing program. In addition to her coaching responsibilities, she will remain responsible for recruiting top-tier student-athletes from all over the country and beyond, with the goal of continuing the program's status as the most successful in the history of the Atlantic 10 Conference and a perennial contender for placement in the NCAA Championships field.
Â
"I am incredibly honored to be a part of and contribute towards the UMass rowing team the past eight years," Landry said. "Head coach Jim Dietz has been an invaluable mentor to me the past 12 years and I am looking forward to continuing to build upon the legacy and vision that Jim has for this program."
Â
With Landry's help, Massachusetts rowing earned three Atlantic 10 Championship and collected NCAA Championships berths in 2014, 2015 and 2017. Since her promotion to the recruiting coordinator position, the Minutewomen have not finished lower than second in the Atlantic 10, while the team boasts three Dad Vail Regatta titles.
Â
The 2017-18 campaign will mark Landry's 13th consecutive season associated with the University of Massachusetts rowing program. She spent the 2005-2009 seasons as a competitor for the program and helped the Minutewomen collect the 2006, 2007 and 2009 Atlantic 10 Championships. Following two seasons as a graduate assistant (2009-2011), Landry took over as a full-time assistant coach beginning with the 2011-12 school year.
