Yale Nips Tennis in Tightly Contested Match

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - For the first time in six games, the UMass tennis team dropped the doubles point which proved the difference maker in a 4-3 loss to Yale on Saturday afternoon at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center. The two teams split the six singles matches making the doubles point the deciding factor in the hard-fought match between the two programs.

The loss drops the Minutewomen to 5-4 overall this year ith their next match slated for next Saturday, March 4 at Dartmouth (1 p.m.).

The Bulldogs picked up wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to clinch the opening point of the match. Laura Moreno and Brittany Collens picked up a win at No. 3 doubles (6-4).

In singles play, Ruth Crawford won an abbreviated No. 1 match (6-4, 3-6, 3-1), while Ana Yrazusta won at No. 3 singles in straight sets (6-4, 6-4). Collens also picked up a win at No. 6 singles (6-4, 6-1) to round out the UMass victories.
