AMHERST, Mass. - The UMass Athletic Department unveiled the Student-Athlete Academic Wall of Fame on Tuesday afternoon as it was National Student-Athlete Day. The wall which features current UMass athletes, sits near the Student-Athlete Academic Center in Boyden Gymnasium. Associate Athletic Director for Academic Services, Joan Hopkins, was on hand for the unveiling.

"I think this wall will inspire our athletes to strive in succeeding both on and off the playing surface. Truly it's meant to honor our student-athletes for being a success in the classroom, while also juggling the task of being a student-athlete" said Hopkins.

The wall, which features head shots of various UMass athletes, honors the seasonal scholar-athletes, members of the prestigious 4.0 Club (student-athletes who achieve a 4.0 GPA for one semester), as well as members of the National Honorary Athletic Fraternity.

Of recent, the UMass track and field teams have dominated the Academic Wall of Fame, as both the women and men swept the fall and winter scholar athlete awards respectively. There is space on the wall for additional names and photos to be added.
