AMHERST, Mass. - With overtime looming, the UMass women's soccer team punched in a late goal to down George Washington, 1-0, on Rudd Field on Friday afternoon. The Minutewomen are now 5-10-2 on the year, 4-6-0 in the Atlantic 10, while the Colonials drop to 6-8-4 overall and 3-5-2 in conference play.

The first half was evenly played, with GW holding a slight advantage in shots, 5-4, at the intermission. UMass placed one on frame in the opening period, a strike by junior Therese Smith (Holyoke, Mass./Holyoke) that was easily grabbed by Colonials' netminder Lindsey Rowe for her lone save of the day.

With time winding down in a fast-paced second half, sophomore Lauren Yelinek (Ludlow, Mass./Minnechaug Regional/Texas Tech) advanced the ball to Smith on the right flank. Smith's initial cross into the box deflected off Rowe to redshirt junior Sydney Stoll (Dedham, Mass./Dedham) who sent home her fifth of the season for the Minutewomen at 85:26.

UMass' defense held strong over the remaining 4:34 of the contest to preserve the shutout. Following a George Washington corner kick, the Colonials nearly netted an equalizer amidst a scramble in front, but the ball was cleared off the line by a Minutewoman defender.

Senior Lauren Luckey (Hendersonville, Tenn./Pope John Paul II) and freshman Emily Cota (Green Lane, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) split time in net for UMass and finished with three saves apiece.

George Washington totaled 13 shots to the Minutewomen's eight, while corner kicks were 5-4 in favor of GW and fouls were 14-10, against the Colonials.

UMass wraps up the regular season at home on Sunday, Nov. 11, on Rudd Field. Prior to kick-off, the Minutewomen will honor the four senior members of this year's squad in a Senior Day ceremony.
